Third largest MTB marathon reached its next record when 5096 riders finished the SEB 16th Tartu Rattamaraton on Sunday. Together with the open track event that took place week before the main event and Saturday's children's race, the initial total number of participants for all the SEB 16th Tartu Rattamaraton events was 8163.
3115 MTB riders finished the 89km distance, 1981 in the 40km distance. Last year a total of 2999 riders managed to cross the finish line in the 89km track and 1887 on the shorter track. Record for the number of participants dated from year 2011 when a total of 4925 riders crossed the finish line.
"Reaching the 5000 participants goal is a notable achievement, which has been our goal for the last three years. We managed to finally reach it this year also because of nice weather few weeks before the race," said director of the race Indrek Kelk.
SEB 16th Tartu Rattamaraton was won by Erki Putsep (EST) who was also crowned Estonian MTB Marathon Champion. Second was Alges Maasikmets (EST) and third Peeter Pruus (EST). Dana Rozlapa (LAT) was the fastest in the womens competition. Greete Steinburg (EST) was second and Liisa Ehrberg (EST) third.
Best team was Nissan Thule Pro Team, second was AMPS Extreme Sport and third Hawaii Express. Best firm was Eesti Post, second Raadio Uuno and third Saint-Gobain Glass Estonia.
There is still one more competition left in the Tartu Maraton calendar this year - running marathon in the City of Tartu. 2nd Tartu Linnamaraton, 2nd Tartu Tudengimaraton ja Tartu Sugisjooks will take place on the 5th of October
