10/05/2014 On May 10th, the Charity Run with 1073 participants took place in Tartu Tähtvere Sports Park

On May 10th, the Charity Run with 1073 participants took place in Tartu Tähtvere Sports Park. The amount of the donation was 7820 euros and all of it goes to support South-Estonian children with juvenile rheumatoid for their therapeutic water gymnastics.

The Charity Run was organized by Club Tartu Maraton in cooperation with Tartu University Hospital Children’s Foundation and pharmaceutical company Teva. For every runner who was present on the run and donated at least 1 euro, Teva donated extra 5 euros. Thus, the donation of one runner was at least 6 euros.

“For us, it is the first and probably the most important event, where people gather, contribute as a community through active lifestyle and help others with the donation. It is wonderful!” said the CEO of the Tartu University Hospital Children’s Foundation Küllike Saar. “Most probably next year, we will have to think of a new project, because this donation will help the rheumatoid children both this and next year."

“One year ago, when we first organized this event, we thought 1000 participants is a 3-5 years goal. But now we see the goal was reached this year and the donation was also bigger than we expected,” said Kunnar Karu, the race director of the SEB 32nd Tartu Jooksumaraton. “This Charity Run also shows that you don’t always have to race the marathon, you can also enjoy the 4,3 km long distance and do it with joy and with your friends, family.”

The amount collected as a donation was handed over by the pharmaceutical company Teva representative to the Tartu University Hospital Children’s Foundation after the run.

The Charity Run took place together with the SEB 32nd Tartu Jooksumaraton’s children’s races. Everyone could participate in the Charity Run either by running or Nordic Walking.

This year, the Charity Run took place the second time. Last year, there were 577 participants and altogether 3803 euros was collected as a donation.
