XV Traditional International DEMINO SKI MARATHON FIS/ WORLDLOPPET 2022.
19/02/2012 Jorgen Brink (SWE) wins the 41st edition of the Tartu Maraton (63km classic) – Susanne Nystrom (SWE) winner on the women's side!

Jörgen Brink (SWE) wins the 41st edition of the Tartu Maraton (63km classic) – Susanne Nyström (SWE) winner on the women"s side!!!

Everybody who had skied La Transjurassienne last week knew already the feeling of strong wind blowing into your face – everybody else got this experience at latest at the start of the 63km long Tartu Maraton in Otepää this morning. The race is skied in classic technique and starts in the sports complex in Otepää (EST), which hosted the FIS Nordic Junior World Ski Championships. The forecasted snowfall waited until the first skiers crossed the finish line and temperatures were around -7°C at the start. With the Scandinavians and Stanislav Rezac back in the game, everybody expected an exciting race. A group around the best racers let others take the first sprint bonus before they decided it was now their time to get in front and put the pace high. From around km 20, it was always a pack around Stanislav Rezac and Anders Aukland who was in the front, leading the group to Elva. However, in the end, it was Jörgen Brink from Sweden, an ex World Cup cross country skier and biathlete, who was the strongest and fastest of today"s race. He was followed by two country men: Daniel Richardsson, besides other success, Olympic Champion with the team 2010 in Vancouver, and Jimmie Johnsson, who placed second and third.

On the women"s side it was a clear thing since the beginning. The tree Team Exspirit girls Nyström, Hansson and Boner went off together and left the other girls whirling behind. It was only in the end that Nyström played out her card and showed her strength in finishing first in front of her friend and team mate Jenny Hannson. Seraina Boner completed the podium as third and so the podium represents the same as at the König-Ludwig-Lauf – the last time these three were racing together in the same race.

Stanislav Rezac (CZE) still leader of the overall FIS Marathon Cup with 260 points – Susanne Nyström (SWE) new leader on the women"s side!

No changes in the men"s ranking of the overall FIS Marathon Cup: Stanislav Rezac (CZE) leads now with 300 points in front of Joergen Aukland (NOR, 256 points) and Jimmie Johnsson (SWE, 235 points) On the women"s side it"s again Susanne Nyström, who, after her victory today, leads the overall ranking with 365 points in front of Jenny Hansson (SWE, 345 points) and Stephanie Santer (ITA, 321 points).

The next FIS Marathon Cup race will be the Finlandia Hiihto next Saturday in Lahti (FIN), a 50km classic technique race.
