After some cancellations over the last seasons & rough starts into the Worldloppet winter, for this season we can expect way better conditions for skiing around the world. By now every single Worldloppet race has received at least some natural snow, some of them even more than 30 cm & the major part already started to produce artificial snow.
It is not really surprising anyone that the members of Worldloppet in the north are blessed with snow in the beginning of December. On the Birkebeinerrennet trails for example the skiers train since November on superb conditions. Also some parts of the Vasaloppet are already groomed and ready for training. Iceland is reporting perfect skiing conditions & Lahti, home of Finlandia Hiihto, received the first snow last week.
Estonia just received some more snow tonigth. So the first 4 km CT trails in the start arena of the Tartu Maraton, the 4th FIS Worldloppet Cup 2018 stage, have been groomed and 8 km FT at Elva.
FIS Worldloppet Cup races offer training possibilities
Also the other 6 FIS Worldloppet Cup races offer training possibilities already in the beginning of December: In Obertilliach, the venue of the Dolomitenlauf, many teams, biathletes, cross country skiers etc. are training on superb conditions since two weeks. The König Ludwig Lauf in Germany opened the the classic trails in Ettal in the end of November, on the Transju-trails you can ski around 40 km, in the Swiss valley of Engadin you can find 42 km skating & 14 km classic trails since the 1st of December & the Birkie tracks just have been groomed tonight, since Wisconsin/USA got more snow this night.
Only the Russian Rybinsk, home of the Demino Skimarathon, the previous last stage in 2018, is waiting for sub-zero temperatures, so the streams are freezing & the OC can start to groom the tracks. But in the Ski Sport Center of Demino they already prepared a loop for training.
In Poland & Czech Republic the Worldloppet skiers find perfect winter weather. Around 30 cm fresh snow arrived last week on the Jizerska50-trails and the snow-guns are also working. Also the OC of Bieg Piastow reports good training conditions on natural snow.
The Italian Marcialonga, which was held only on artificial snow last year, is appearing in white since last week & the snow-guns of Val di Fiemme/Fassa are producing day & night.
Sapporo Skimarathon & Gatineau Loppet had a better start into the winter season than last year and appeared in a wintery white landscape, with more snow predicted for the weekend. Only Vasaloppet China has to wait with snow production until some weeks before the event, but not because of missing sub-zero temperatures but because they have to keep free the trails of the park where the race is taking place.
So we definitely heading a better Worldloppet winter opening than the last season & we can expect a great winter with skiing around the world.
