05/05/2014 this Saturday, May 10th, the SEB 32nd Tartu Jooksumaraton children's events are held.

With its large participants number, it is the biggest children’s running event in the Baltics. The registration online is now open until Thursday, May 8th. The participation is free of charge.

The Tähtvere Sport Park is ready to welcome almost 4000 little runner. All children in any age are excpected to take part: there is the TILLUrun with 400 and 800 m long distances and MINImarathon with 2 km long distance. The routes run mainly on the forest and asphalt roads.

In the last few years, the number of participants has increased by 500 yearly. In 2011 the participants number was 2198, in 2012 the number was 2610, year later it went up for 500 more - 3115. Considering this tendency, this year, the participants number may be around 3600.

“It’s great that through years, the number of little participants in this event has grown and better than that - children have even took their parents with them to participate in the running events,” said Kunnar Karu, the race director of the SEB 32nd Tartu Jooksumaraton. “Wind and rain haven’t stopped children - they like to run and if they can do it with their friends and mascots, their joy and emotions are always on the top!”

In addition, approximately 1000 runners are expected to take part in the Charity Run, also organized on the May 10th in Tähtvere Sport Park. The Charity Run’s aim is to support South-Estonian rheumatoid children for their therapeutic water gymnastics.

“We are glad to see that healthy and active lifestyle in the fresh air has reached to a great number of people in Tartu and Estonia,” said Karu. “The Charity Run is a great example how active lifestyle can move mountains. Mountains that big, it is noticed in the whole country!”

On Sunday, May 11th, the SEB 32nd Tartu Jooksumaraton with 10 and 23 km long distances will take place. Over 4000 participants are expected to finish the races.
