10/05/2014 On May 10th, the children's races were held in Tartu Tähtvere Sport's park

On this weekend, the SEB 32nd Tartu Jooksumaraton races take place and today, on May 10th, the children’s races were held in Tartu Tähtvere Sport’s park. Altogether 3718 children took part.

The event consisted of two large races - with 2850 participants for children up to 8-years-old TILLUrun (with two distances: 400 and 800 m) and with 861 participants for school children MINImarathon (with 2 km distance). Last year there were 3115 participants, 2443 in TILLUrun and 672 in MINImarathon.

“Running is good, because it makes you strong!” said 6-year-old Aurelia, who participated in the TILLUrun for her second time. “After the run, I hope there will be some chocolate and lemonade waiting for me,” she said just before her start. Every finisher received a medal, diploma, lemonade, ice cream and a bag with goods.

“Of course you can run at home, on your home track, but the competition is competition, it’s good to show this side to children as well,” explained mother of three children Ave Hussar why she came to the event. “I didn’t have to force children to come here, the medals play an important role and it’s really important to them.”

Together with the children’s races, the 4,3 km Charity Run took place in the Tähtvere Sport Park. Ave Hussar participated in this run with his eldest son. “It’s purely for showing the example, you have to be active and sporting, for your health,” she said.

“This was our first children’s event out of five this year and I’m sure the children’s sport’s year was decently opened,” said Kunnar Karu, the race director of the SEB 32nd Tartu Jooksumaraton. “We are glad that so many small runners gathered to run the day before the main race. It seems children still have their athletic spirit! We are also thankful for the great weather - it promised rain, but it was warm, dry and definitely perfect weather for running.”

Tomorrow, on May 11th, the SEB 32nd Tartu Jooksumaraton main distances - the 23 km and 10 km - will be held. These races welcome a over 4000 running and Nordic Walking fans.
