Due to lack of snow in South.Estonia, the 3rd Tartu Team Relay was exceptionally held in Alutaguse Recreational and Sports Centre in North-East Estonia. The race won Rümena Team with Eeri Vahtra, Morten Priks, Janari Rajas and Avo Sambla. They completed the 4 x 12 km relay with time 1:56:16.
Janar Rajas, who skied the third shift in the winning team, said the track was icy, but there were also softer spots. “I like the Tartu Maraton’s track more and though, the snow conditions were poor, it was sustainable to ski,” he added.
Rümena Team who became second last year, outpaced this year last year’s winner Squeezy Team/SK Biathlon with 1 minute and 21 seconds. “So far, the Tartu Team Relay has become a struggle between two teams. This year the results were like this. We’ll see what future brings,” said Rajas.
The Squeezy Team/SK Biathlon team included Karel Kulbin, Peeter Kirss, Martten Kaldvee and Priit Viks. The third team with overall time 1:58:37 was SPARTA team with Kristjan Oolo, Heidi Raju, Andre Mets and Martti Himma.
Together with the 3rd Tartu Team Relay, the 43rd Tartu Maraton Open Track and Tervis Pluss 13th Tartu Maraton Ladies’ Race were held. Overall 86 teams participated in the Tartu Team Relay race, additionally 235 skiers went to the open track and ladies’ race.
