Shevchenko wins Dolomitenlauf, Ivanou finished on 2nd Place in dramatic finishing sprint The Austrian based Skinfit Racing Team showed up in full team strength at this years Dolomitenlauf in Obertilliach (Austria). The 42k Skating race which is part of the FIS Marathon series is one of the most important races for the Austrian team.
Valentina Shevchenko, the only women in Skinfit Racing Team, did a strong race and confirmed her great shape. 36-year old Shevchenko crossed the finish line after 1:25,27 followed by Seraina Boner (+1,30) from Switzerland.
Also on the means race, the Austrian Team got a second place with Aliaksei Ivanou from Belarus. The Belarusian athlete had to battle it out in a dramatic finishing sprint against last year’s winner Fabio Santus from Italy.
Santus took his chance and saved his 3rd victory in Obertilliach just a few centimetres in front of Ivanou who was quite satisfied with his performance.
“After 20k I felt pretty tired and I wasn’t sure if I can follow the leading group until the finish. Close to the finish I tried to push hard again and became 2nd in the end. A really great day for me” so Ivanou. Also Czech athlete Martin Koukal (Skinfit Racing Team) did a great race and finished on 4th place just a few meters behind 3rd, Tim Tscharnke from Germany.
“I felt a bit tired before the race and was not sure if I can do a good job today. After 42k in a hectic race with many broken poles and crashes, I saved a 4th place” says Koukal.
“We had high ambitions for the Dolomitenlauf and the athletes as well as the service team did a great job. We had perfect material and almost surpassed our goals. A 1st place in women’s race and a 2nd, 4th and 10th place in men’s competition is a really satisfying result” says Manfred Hierschläger, athletic director.
