21/01/2015 The renowned ski-marathon on Sunday

The 42nd Marcialonga ski-marathon was officially unveiled in Trento yesterday. The world-famous long distance XC skiing race in the Dolomites – namely Val di Fiemme and Val di Fassa – first and foremost confirmed the 57k course as previously announced from the village of Mazzin (instead of Moena) to Cavalese, with a 33k-long version called ‘Marcialonga Light’ from Mazzin to Predazzo. Over 100.000 cubic meters of artificial snow have been produced in the past weeks due to a lack of natural snow so far – today it’s snowing in Val di Fiemme and Fassa – and the OC did an incredible job along with hundreds of local volunteers in order to guarantee the event next Sunday. Start will be set at 9am and the classic Cascata uphill will fire up the race at the very end right before the finish line in Cavalese. The long list of XC skiing stars already registered at the 2015 Marcialonga includes Norway’s John Kristian Dahl – second last year - Anders and Jørgen Aukland, Tord Asle Gjerdalen and Thomas Alsgaard among others, but also Øystein Pettersen (provisional leader of the Swix Ski Classics series), Pedersen, Eliassen, Dammen, Callesen, Kjølstad and Berdal will attempt to climb the Italian podium. And so will Sweden’s Soedergren, Tynell, Svaerd, Ahrlin, Brink and Impola, Stan Rezac of Czech Republic, Italy’s Giorgio Di Centa, Bruno Debertolis and Nicola Morandini, Finn Jauhojaervi or Russian Aleksey Dvoskin. On the women’s side, Holly Brooks of the US team confirmed her presence and so did Masako Ishida of Japan who will challenge experienced Smutna, Boner, Jambaeva, Tikhonova, Johansson Norgren, Lofstroem, Boudikova, Kveli and homegirl Antonella Confortola.

The 2015 Marcialonga weekend will take off on Saturday morning with the vintage promo-race Marcialonga Story followed by Marcialonga Stars for charity, Minimarcialonga for children and Marcialonga Young events.

Updated news on www.marcialonga.it plus Facebook, Twitter and YouTube channel.

This year’s Marcialonga is part of the new Marcialonga Science project, which aims to evaluate and measure the impact of the double poling technique on muscles, fibres and heart of some athletes during and after the competition. The results of the study will be presented at the International Congress on Science in Nordic Skiing in Finland next June, and at the Mountain Sport Health Congress in Rovereto (Italy) next November.
