11/02/2015 All ready for Finlandia Hiihto

Legendary Siiri "Äitee" Rantanen will send off the Finlandia 50 km
    classic skiers

Olympic champion and multiple World Championships medalist Siiri
"Äitee" Rantanen will face a new role at Finlandia Ski Marathon on
February 21st. She has the honour to send off the skiers to 50 km
    classic event.
"I have started but I have never send off the skiers", Rantanen says.
Rantanen, 90, is one of the living legends of Finnish cross-country
skiing. Her love for skiing takes her still regulary out on
    cross-country skis.
"Nowadays I ski on trails on iced lakes. I really feel like skiing."
Apart from her achievements at major championships, she has an
impressive history also at Finlandia, including two victories at
    women’s category.
"I was a great fun. You do your journey and talk to fellow skiers. I
    was pleased everytime I finished."
No wonder she recommends Finlandia to everyone:
"Journey is the best part of it. You can ski at your own pace, take
some drink at service station and keep going. Joy of skiing. People
pass you and you pass people. I really hope everyone would be part of
    it", Rantanen says.
Over 4000 skiers have already registered to Finlandia, which includes
50 km both classic and free technique as well as 32 km classic and 20
km free technique as shorter distances. Now it is time to do as Siiri
wishes, as registration period runs until February 15th.
