The 41st Tartu Maraton that was held on the 19th of February brought 6750 people over the finish line. The number of finished participants has not reached that high level since 1987.

Indrek Kelk, the Race Director of the 41st Tartu Maraton is glad to see that brave skiers enjoy Tartu Maraton: „I am happy that despite the quite difficult weather conditions so many skiers crossed the finish line. It shows that very many skiers had the chance to enjoy the marathon in it’s full-length."

The Medical Service Chief Andras Laugamets confirms that this year´s Tartu Marathon went peacefully: „There were no extraordinary incidents. This indicates clearly that people know their limits of when to quit and choose their own tempo. People are supportive and help each other to finish the course“.

Participator Airi Undrits is happy that she took part in the 41st Tartu Marathon: “At the beginning I was not sure if I’m able to ski the 63 km track, but as I got on the track the fear was gone. People were friendly, organisation was excellent and the feeling was great!" Airi, who has taken part in all 2012 Estoloppet marathons, recommends skiing to everyone: “I encourage people to take part in marathons – there is no need to be afraid!” says Airi and adds that one may start with the shorter distances.

What did the positively high number of participators mean to the organisers of the great sports event? 6000 litres of Ekströms blueberry drink, 9000 litres of Powerbar sports drink, 2000 bottles of warm A. Le Coq Porter bear with honey, 500kg of Salvest pickles, 4000 litres of Dilmah tea, 250 kg of raisins and 2000 litres of Knorr bouillon. In addition to previous list 8500 portions of Salvest pea soup, about 1100 loaves of bread, 16 000 raisin buns, 11 000 cups of Löfbergs Lila coffee, 2500 cups of warm Gutta blackcurrant drink, and of course bananas, salt and sugar.

More than 1200 people worked hard to organise the 41st Tartu Marathon, of which a majority were volunteers.

According to 18.02 start protocols the total number of registered skiers of the 41st Tartu Marathon was 7488. 5610 of them went to the long 63 km course and 1878 skiers decided to go to the 31 km course.

The 41st Tartu Marathon was the opening event of the SEB Tartu Complex Event 2012. The next event - SEB 30th Tartu Running Marathon takes place already in May. Taking part in all four races of the SEB Tartu Complex Event gives four times more joy!
