Annual General Meeting (AGM) of Worldloppet, international sports federation of cross-country skiing marathons will take place in Estonia, Tartu from 14th of June till Sunday 17th of June.
The most important decisions concerning the organization will be made during AGM. This year there are two main agendas: new Worldloppet Secretary General for the next four years will be elected and decision about a new marathon in the Worldloppet series will be made also. Russian Demino Ski Marathon has declared it’s ambition to get included in the Worldloppet series.
The place of the AGM rotates between ski marathon organizers. Tartu hosted AGM 15 years ago in 1997. In addition to local organizers (organizers of Tartu Maraton) 45 guests from 16 different countries will be coming to Tartu.
Today Worldloppet consists of 15 ski marathons from all over the world including marathons from Asia, America, Australia and of course Europe. During last several years over 100 000 people have participated in Worldloppet marathons per season.
Madis Lepajõe Worldloppet Secretary General 1998-2004 emphasizes the importance of the meeting: “Last AGM that took place in Tartu was 15 years ago and the next time for Tartu to host the AGM will be in 2028. It is an honor to organize the meeting in Tartu especially concerning the fact that Tartu Maraton is the only international Estonian skiing competition that holds Estonia on the world skiing map.”
From 1999 to 2004, Club Tartu Maraton was also headquarters of Worldloppet.
