In conditions of low snowfall and abnormally warm winter, the main task of the organizers of the XVIII Rostec Deminsky Ski Marathon is to preserve the track. For this purpose, snow is collected in the forest and delivered to the track, while ice crumb for the base is brought from the Polet Sports Palace.
- We are not giving up. At the moment, a five-kilometer circle has been formed in Demino by all standards. Skiers train on it. We are working on the creation of a dense snow track for the 30-kilometer circle. Snow cannons are working around the clock, we are creating artificial snow reserves, - said Igor Samoylov, Director of the Demino Marathons.
Another source of snow and ice for the Demino track was the Palace of Sports “Polet”, where the main city ice court is located.
- Usually we cut off the top layer of ice before each pouring and just take it outside. But this year we carefully store it to take it to Demino. The ice is poured 8-12 times a day. About two cubic meters of snow are placed in the hopper of the combine. It takes a couple of weeks to fill the area of Polet where the snow is stored,” explained Igor Matrosov, Director of Polet.
Already 10 KamAZ trucks have been sent to Demino, and this work will continue until the start. Rybinsk already has experience of track preparation in extreme conditions. In the year of opening of the Demino center the track for the World Cup stage in cross-country skiing was created at the cost of heroic efforts. This year, volunteers, the sports community of Rybinsk and the community of Rybinsk also worked to collect snow for the biathlon track of the Commonwealth Cup stage in January.
