The baby marathon is a long tradition of Demino marathon and the highlight of Sunday. Children aged 4 to 8 go to the start under the same number to overcome the kilometer distance and get their well-deserved reward.
This year the baby marathon also breaks the record for the number of participants. On March 5, 250 novice athletes will start at the start. The youngest skiers just turned four years old.
-Baby marathon is not inferior in popularity to adult races. Slots for this distance are booked at lightning speed. At the moment, there is even a “waiting list,” said Igor Samoylov, the director of Demino Marathons. – This year, thanks to the introduction of the three-day format of the Rostec Demino marathon, the kids’ race will start a little later - at 10 o’clock. Participants for safety were divided into two age groups, which start with a difference of 10 minutes.
Volunteers will accompany beginner skiers on the track that runs through the stadium. All young marathon runners become winners, regardless of the time they complete the distance. At the finish line, they are waiting for the well-deserved medals of the participants and a gift from the Demino marathons. The awards are presented by Olympic champions and medalists, marathon legends and celebrity guests.
At Demino baby marathon, the children of Vancouver bronze medalists Alexey Petukhov, Nikolay Morilov, Natalia Korosteleva done their first ski steps. Olympic champion Nikita Kryukov take both his son and daughter to the competition. Two-time Olympic champion Anna Bogaliy on the baby marathon course is a mother and the main fan for her children.
The smallest participant in the history of the Demino competitions was Daniil, the son of the bronze medalist of the Olympic Games in Vancouver Nikolai Morilov. In 2016, Nikolai carried his two-month-old son in his arms from start to finish. Danya was packed in a warm envelope, and start number N 1 was put on the envelope! And the son of the president of the Russialoppet series, Georgy Kadykov-Orbeliani, covered the distance in a year and a month, as expected, on skis and in father's arms.
The XVI International Rostec Demino Ski Marathon will be held on March 3, 4, and 5 at the Demino Ski and Biathlon Center. Its participants will be professional athletes and amateur skiers. About 4.7 thousand people from 57 regions of Russia and six countries of the world have already passed the registration. The slots for the main 50 km race, 2 km classic and baby marathon are closed. There are just over 300 places left for other types of the program.
Rostec Demino Ski Marathon is the largest ski marathon in Russia. Russialoppet leader in terms of the number of finishers in the main race. In the 2022 season, the winners of the Demino ski marathon at a distance of 50 km were Alexander Bolshunov and Natalya Nepryaeva.
