March 5 is the final day of the great skiing holiday — the XVI International Rostec Demino Marathon. It was opened by children's races - the traditional Deminsk baby marathon and a two-kilometer distance for skiers under 10 years old.
Participants of the baby marathon are small skiers aged 4 to 8 years. The race begins with a mass start, young novice athletes start under a single number "1" and overcome a distance of one kilometer. At the finish line, everyone gets a well-deserved medal and a sweet gift from the Demino marathon. This year, due to the great popularity, the number of slots for the smallest race has been increased to 250 people and two starting waves have been introduced.
— Races are in great demand not only among the inhabitants of Rybinsk and the inhabitants of the Yaroslavl region. People come to the baby marathon from neighboring regions and even very remote corners of the country. Often, participants in adult races bring their children, so the Demino marathon dynasties are born, - said Igor Samoilov, director of the Demino marathons.
Three years ago, for the first time, a two-kilometer race for children aged 10 to 12 was included in the program of the Demino Marathon, ensuring the continuity of all the races of the Demino program. This year, 300 participants entered the second children's distance. And if for the smallest marathon runners the track passes through the stadium, then the two-kilometer distance enters the forest belt and has an ascent and descent, which requires the participants not only desire, but also certain skiing skills.
Daughter and son of Olympic champion Nikita Kryukov, sons of Olympic medalists Nikolai Morilov and Natalia Korosteleva, president of the All-Russian series of Russian ski marathons Russialoppet Georgy Kadykov-Orbeliani participate in children's races. Star parents and guests of honor traditionally hand over well-deserved medals to beginner marathon runners at the finish line.
